Amazon Ring recalls 350,000 doorbells after some caught fire

  • Amazon-owned Ring has recalled more than 350,000 smart doorbells in the US after reports of some them catching fire and causing damage.
  • Around 350,000 second-generation Ring doorbells sold in the US, and roughly 8,700 sold in Canada, have a potential fire hazard linked to their batteries, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said Tuesday.
  • “The video doorbell’s battery can overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation,” the CPSC notice said.
  • Ring has received 23 reports of doorbells catching fire and causing property damage in the US, and eight reports of minor burns.

Sig Sauer Inc. announces $77M Army contract for M4 rifle scopes

Nov. 11 (UPI) — Sig Sauer Inc. confirmed it was chosen by the U.S. Army Contract Command, in a $77 million deal, to produce a new scope for M4A1carbine rifles.

The company, headquartered in Newington, N.H., will manufacture its TANGO6T optic for the branch.

The TANGO6T is a variable-magnification Direct View Optic riflescope that allows close quarter and long-range target sightings with the ability to quickly switch between one and six times magnification, according to the company.

The device is currently in use with the U.S. Army Squad Designated Marksman and U.S. Military Special Forces.

“The riflescope continues to prove it will with stand the rigors of U.S. military testing making it the choice for use with our soldiers,” Ron Chen, Sig Sauer Inc. president said in a statement.

Shares in Alibaba, a Chinese version of Amazon, dropped by 9.8% on Wednesday, while its rivals, Tencent, and JD.com, fell by 7.4% and 9.2% respectively.

The share declines coincided with China’s Singles’ Day, an unofficial holiday held on 11 November which is billed as the world’s biggest online shopping event. Alibaba and other online retailers can smash sales records for one day’s trading this day.

TSX Ends Higher Again; Technology Stocks Rally

(RTTNews) – The Canadian stock market ended on a strong note on Wednesday, extending its winning streak to a third straight session, amid continued optimism about a coronavirus vaccine, and on gains in technology stocks.

Real estate, telecom and energy shares were among the other notable gainers. Materials, financial, healthcare, consumer discretionary and industrial shares turned in a mixed performance.

This study reports the occurrence of intense atmospheric rivers (ARs) during the two large Weddell Polynya events in November 1973 and September 2017 and investigates their role in the opening events via their enhancement of sea ice melt. Few days before the polynya openings, persistent ARs maintained a sustained positive total energy flux at the surface, resulting in sea ice thinning and a decline in sea ice concentration in the Maud Rise region. The ARs were associated with anomalously high amounts of total precipitable water and cloud liquid water content exceeding 3 SDs above the climatological mean.
