Razer’s Tomahawk modular gaming PC is finally a real product

Razer has been talking up modular gaming PCs for years. Now, after various concepts, CES reveals, and standard PC cases with associated branding, the company is actually selling pre-built desktop PCs for the first time.

The Tomahawk is the final version of what we saw at CES 2020 back in January. It’s a simple case design with two PCIe slots: one for a full-sized GPU, and one for an Intel NUC Element board that contains the CPU, the RAM, the storage, and basically everything else you need for a functional PC.

The NUC module includes a 45W Core i9-9980HK Coffee Lake processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a 512GB NVMe SSD, and a 2TB hard drive. The memory and storage are upgradable, but the CPU is not — unless Intel releases another compatible NUC board that you can swap directly into the Tomahawk. That Coffee Lake CPU is the kind of

Razer revealed its Tomahawk Gaming Desktop at CES 2020, the company’s first foray into selling desktop PCs in addition to its line of laptops. Now, almost a year later, its PC with a modular, 10 liter eGPU-like design will finally ship — or at least be begin preorders today — with prices starting at $2,400.

As ideas go, it’s pretty ingenious. It’s basically a pull-out circuit board with two PCI slots: one for a graphics card and one for an Intel NUC 9 Extreme Compute Element module which slides into a bay and has an Intel Core i9-9980HK processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and a 2TB hard drive. It can accommodate a GPU up to the size and power requirements of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 (it uses a 750 watt power supply), which should cover most needs.

Someone spent 45 hours building an RTX 3070 gaming PC in Minecraft

Henceforth to be known as a master Minecraft builder, Reddit user AlanGeisse has been using their skills to recreate their very own fantasy PC builds in-game. In the first installation, as exhibited in this hilariously epic flythrough video, it’s even possible to swim through the PCs water cooling system—which is pretty amazing.

Unfortunately, their initial post on r/Minecraft didn’t gain much traction. But, after spending 45 hours on an even more accurate, higher spec design, complete with an elusive Nvidia RTX 3070, Alan’s finally getting the recognition they deserve.

Speaking with us, Alan explains that, due to unavoidable height limitations associated with building in Minecraft, the scale of this second design ended up at around 2mm per block. And, although there were some inevitable scaling issues due to these restrictions, it still looks pretty darn accurate to us.

Alan graciously divulged how they managed to achieve such an

Corsair HS60 Haptic PC Gaming Headset Review

Corsair HS60 Haptic PC Gaming Headset

Today we are looking at a new PC gaming headset release from Corsair, the HS60 Haptic. Corsair began producing headsets over a decade ago, starting off with the HS1, a solid first entry from the company. Since then, Corsair has continually improved upon their headset designs and introduced new features. With so many solid gaming headsets on the market, it can be really hard to stand out. Does the new HS60 Haptic do enough to differentiate itself from the pack and warrant its $129 price tag at places like Amazon.com?

The Corsair HS60 Haptic takes the Corsair HS60 headset, which retails for $70 and adds haptic feedback along. The HS60 Haptic isn’t the first gaming headset to offer vibration, but Corsair is implementing it in a different way from competitors. Corsair has worked with Taction Technology to include Taction Transporters in the headset, making

Steam PC Gaming Hardware Survey Shows AMD Ryzen CPUs Continue To Take Share From Intel

AMD Ryzen

AMD versus Intel is sort of a David versus Goliath story, only these days, AMD has armed itself with more than just a slingshot. Zen is the real deal. That is abundantly clear by now, but lest anyone needs reminding, a peek at Steam’s latest hardware survey results for November 2020 show how well AMD’s processors are being received by gamers, as it continues to, uh, chip away at Intel’s share.

I can hear the groans at the pun, but bear with me. The point is, this is a different AMD versus Intel battle than in past years, before Zen came along. AMD for a long time was the also-ran, while Intel dominated the market with better performing CPUs at the high end. But now? The Ryzen 5000 series is an awesome lineup, while the previous generation Ryzen 3000 series still holds its own.

Combined with excellent platform support—X570 and
