Lief CEO Adel Villalobos shares insight on technology innovation and nutrition industry supply chain
VALENCIA, CA / ACCESSWIRE / December 2, 2020 / Lief Labs, a premier formulation and product development innovator and manufacturer of dietary supplements, today announced that Lief’s CEO and Founder, Adel Villalobos delivered a presentation, titled, “Using Technology as a CMO to Improve Supply Chain,” at The Big Natural Conference, a virtual event which was hosted by the Natural Products Association (NPA) on November 30th and December 1st.
The Big Natural annual conference brings together industry leaders, innovators and government officials to share insights that will educate, empower and spark innovative ideas to drive the industry forward.
Highlights of Villalobos’s presentation included a 2020 recap in which the nutrition industry saw the continued mass migration to the E-Commerce frontier accelerate significantly, creating market disruption, as well as opportunity. He also shared some of the innovative ways Lief utilized technology to adapt to the surge of online business and to better understand and serve its brand partners, particularly amid the challenging backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on supply chain.
In discussing this new breed of E-Commerce customers, Villalobos shared, “As a CMO, we can’t just be making tablets, capsules, powders, liquids soft gels and gummies. We need to provide more services to these groups, because it is these groups that disrupt our supply chain and also disrupt the regulatory environment of our industry.”

Among Lief’s innovative services developed in 2020, included the institution of a Center of Excellence division, as a centralized source of data collection and analytics to drive digitization and improvements in supply chain. Lief also launched a TrueStock mobile app, which was created to digitize and simplify data collection from Lief’s customers to enable better forecasting models, resulting in zero instances of product depletion for the firm’s ten TrueStock participating clients.
Looking ahead to 2021, Villalobos expects to see continued growth of Lief’s partnerships with entrepreneurial brands, as well as expanded technology innovation and use of Neural Networks to further advance the dietary supplement industry. According to Villalobos, this will include continued use of Machine Learning, as well as an increased use of Vision Systems to support areas like labeling and safety to ensure robust protocols for critical consumable product issues, such as allergens.
