Your phone can send you an alert if you were near someone who has coronavirus

As new coronavirus cases explode nationwide, health officials are turning to cell phones to help slow the spread of infections.

Thanks to technology available on Apple and Google phones, you can now get pop-up notifications in some states if you were close to someone who later tested positive for Covid-19. The alerts come via state health department apps that use Bluetooth technology to detect when you (or more precisely, your phone) has been in close contact with an infected person’s phone.

While these apps can’t keep you safe — they only let you know after you’ve been exposed — they could prevent others from getting infected if you take precautions, such as self-quarantining, after receiving an alert.

Mumbai-based insuretech platform Turtlemint on Wednesday announced to have secured $30 million in a funding round led by GGV Capital. How Facebook plans to alert you when there’s a projected presidential winner

Facebook and its photo service, Instagram , said they plan to show users a message at the top of their feeds, and new labels, when a US presidential winner has been projected.

The notifications and labels will include a link to Facebook’s voting information center and cite who projected the winner. Facebook and Instagram will add labels that state the projected winner below posts from candidates President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden. The notification that’ll appear at the top of a user’s News Feed will also include a timestamp.

Facebook said in an e-mail that it’s relying on a majority opinion from Reuters and major media outlets, including ABC News, CBS News, Fox News, NBC News, CNN and the Associated Press, to determine when a presidential winner is projected.

Stock Alert: Microchip Technology At New High As Results, Outlook Above Estimates

(RTTNews) – Shares of Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP) are gaining more than 4 percent or $5.19 in Friday’s morning trade at $123.57, after touching a new 52-week high of $123.93 as the company’s second-quarter results beat analysts’ estimates and it forecast third- quarter results also above their expectations.

Thursday, Microchip Technology said its second-quarter net income fell to $73.6 million or $0.27 per share from $108.9 million or $0.43 per share in the prior-year quarter. Adjusted earnings were $1.56 per share, compared to $1.43 per share last year. Net sales declined 2.1 percent to $1.31 billion from $1.34 billion in the year-ago period.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had a consensus estimate for earnings of $1.43 per share on revenues of $1.26 billion.

For the third quarter, Microchip Technology forecast adjusted earnings of $1.51 to $1.63 per share on net sales in a range of $1.310 billion to $1.375 billion.

WASHINGTON — The nation’s capital has become one of the first jurisdictions in the country to employ a new COVID-19 notification system, a joint Google-Apple venture that delivers alerts to people’s phones, notifying them that they may have been exposed to the coronavirus.

Mayor Muriel Bowser on Tuesday urged all residents with Apple or Android smartphones to opt in to the new DC COVID Alert Notice system, or DC CAN. Bowser called it “a quick and easy way to know if you might have been exposed to COVID-19. Opting in is one more way you can protect yourself, your friends and family, and our entire community.”
