Óscar Gutiérrez/CNET

A new investor note from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts two new MacBook Pros will launch in 2021, followed by the release of a more affordable MacBook Air in 2022, 9to5Mac reported Wednesday. The devices are all predicted to use new mini-LED panels, a burnout-resistant improvement to Apple’s LCD screen-lighting technology. The analysis also predicts “two or three” new chargers in 2021, and doubles down on Kuo’s previous estimate of mini-LED unit shipments released in an earlier report.

In November, Kuo predicted that Apple would release the next generation of MacBook and Apple Watches in the second half of 2021, and that the iPad Air would be given 5G connectivity next year too, as well as a mini-LED display. In the same report, he also said he expect the AirPods 3 launch to be delayed from early next year until April or June. Kuo’s latest analysis revised that

Apple on Track for Strong Holiday Sales for AirPods, IPhone 12, Analyst Says

Apple  (AAPL) – Get Report is likely to see the AirPods and IPhone 12 flying off the shelves this holiday shopping season, a Wedbush analyst said Wednesday.

Shares of the Cupertino, Calif.-based tech giant were up nearly 1% to $116.15 on Wednesday morning.

Analyst Daniel Ives, who has an outperform rating on Apple with a $150 price target, said that “as we head into Black Friday and the start of holiday shopping season we are seeing a surge of consumer demand for Apple’s AirPods Pro with some good discounts on the horizon.”

Ives estimates that Apple will sell sell roughly 18 million AirPods during the course of the next month and is on pace to yet again be “a clear star” of Black Friday and the holiday season.

“We estimate that Apple is on pace to sell over 90 million AirPods units in 2020 and is now on

Tech could outperform into year-end as Covid cases rise: Analyst

Technology stocks could see yet another leg higher in 2020, according to WallachBeth Capital managing director Andrew McOrmond.

McOrmond said what has already been a banner year for the tech trade could finish strong as the market weighs whether to price in another wave of Covid-19 restrictions or look ahead to a 2021 recovery.

“We’re in a tug-of-war between different types of investors,” he said Thursday on CNBC’s “ETF Edge.”

U.S. stocks continued to fall Thursday as fears around the recent uptick in coronavirus case counts persisted. Stay-at-home plays including Zoom Video, Slack, Electronic Arts and Netflix climbed.

“A period like [Thursday] — New York City schools closed — … just kind of reengages this kind of retail investor and day traders who are very powerful in this market,” McOrmond said. “Some of these names like Boeing and these comeback names have kind of just come in a little bit.”

Healthy demand suggests iPhone 12 ‘supercycle’ is underway, analyst says

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro “supercycle” is currently underway for Apple, according to supply checks carried out by investment firm Wedbush.

In a note to investors seen by AppleInsider, Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives says that recent Asia checks have been “incrementally bullish” around iPhone 12 demand in the U.S. and in China. Ives is currently predicting that Apple suppliers will ship 80 million iPhone 12 units in the initial launch period, with sales just less than 90 million possible, but on the outside edge of the prediction model.

Wedbush is seeing a “clear tick up” for demand around the iPhone 12 Pro models, with indications that the 6.1-inch variant is currently the “star of the show.” Demand for the iPhone 12 Pro Max is also very strong, however, and Ives notes that this bodes well for Apple’s average selling price (ASP) heading into 2021.

CIA thinks North Korean missiles could reach U.S. targets, analyst says

Nov. 18 (UPI) — North Korea may have developed intercontinental ballistic missiles with sufficient atmospheric reentry capabilities that can reach the United States, a former CIA analyst says.

Bruce Klingner, senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, said in a new report the CIA has made the assessments of “definite threats to the U.S. homeland.”

“Although North Korea has not yet conducted an ICBM flight test that successfully demonstrated a re-entry vehicle capability, the CIA has assessed that Pyongyang’s ICBM re-entry vehicles would likely perform adequately if flown on a normal trajectory to continental U.S. targets,” Klingner says in the think tank’s 2021 Index of U.S. Military Strength.

North Korean missile tests in recent years have led to speculation about whether Pyongyang has mastered atmospheric reentry for projectiles capable of targeting the United States.

In 2017, missile expert Michael Elleman of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London said
