China leads US in energy regenerative capacity

A robust technological future for the United States depends upon exposing children to core concepts of science, technology, engineering and math.

In January, the National Science Board, part of the National Science Foundation, published its biennial report on Science and Engineering Indicators. It captures how the United States compares to other countries from the perspective of degree production, investments in research and development, and scientific articles and patents (as a proxy for technical prowess).

Basically, we’re falling behind on every major measure, which means we may not have enough trained people and core competencies to combat climate change, defeat contagious viruses or compete in the growing market for advanced energy systems.

This is a dangerous signal.

Not only have we closed the borders (even to students) and raised the walls (literally and figuratively) to shared knowledge, we have diluted educational achievement standards at home and outsourced critical manufacturing

Middle East & Africa Gas Turbine Market Forecast to 2027 – COVID-19 Impact and Regional Analysis By Technology, Capacity, and Application

New York, Nov. 26, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Reportlinker.com announces the release of the report “Middle East & Africa Gas Turbine Market Forecast to 2027 – COVID-19 Impact and Regional Analysis By Technology, Capacity, and Application” – https://www.reportlinker.com/p05989553/?utm_source=GNW

Gas-fired turbines are faster, more efficient, and less polluting than coal-fired and nuclear power plants.High power-to-weight ratio and low operations pressure are among the various advantages associated with these turbines.

Besides, the gas turbines are durable and efficient, and cheaper to install. They exhibit less downtime and functional failure compared to nuclear and coal-driven turbines.

Increasing demand for natural gas-fired power plants, rising concerns regarding greenhouse gas emissions, and stringent government norms have stimulated the demand for gas turbines. Moreover, governments of the countries in this region offer incentives to companies using natural gas-based turbines for power generation.

In several countries, nuclear power stations have been closed due to political pressure which has led

AirAsia slashes Malaysia capacity recovery outlook

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – Malaysian budget airline AirAsia Group Bhd on Tuesday slashed its outlook for its home market again although it expects a rebound in December.

While encouraged by a resumption of domestic travel in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines during the three-month period ended September 30, AirAsia said a spike in coronavirus cases in Malaysia and subsequent curbs had led it to reduce capacity in the country in October and November.

It halved its projected recovery rate in Malaysia to 31% of its pre-COVID-19 capacity by the year end, after already lowering it to 60% last month from 70-75% in August.

“There is a slight setback in Malaysia but we expect this to be short-lived and to bounce strongly

Japan’s High-Tech Experiment Packs Ballpark at 90% Capacity

Japan’s High-Tech Experiment Packs Ballpark at 90% Capacity

By

Joe Lemire

In advance of its stadium being used to host Olympic baseball and softball games next summer, Japan’s Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars hosted a three-game series at the end of October in which fan attendance reached 50%, then 80% and finally 90% capacity.

DeNA Bay Stars EVP Yota Kimura joined the SportTechie PRO DAY: Reopening Sports Venues to share his insights from the high-tech experiment in which the club hosted as many as 27,850 fans in the 32,402-seat stadium. “We believe that even though we increased the number of capacity from the regulation of 50% to 90%, we have not seen an increase in COVID,” Kimura said through a translator.

Among the technologies deployed at Yokohama Stadium:

  • 13 facial recognition cameras from NEC Corp., to record gate and concourse congestion, the percentage of fans wearing masks, and

Nikkiso Cryo Pump Technology Part of Excelerate Energy’s Record Breaking FSRU Send-Out Capacity

TEMECULA, Calif., Nov. 04, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Nikkiso Cryogenic Industries’ Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group (“Group”), a subsidiary of Nikkiso Co., Ltd (Japan), is proud to be the primary pump supplier for Excelerate Energy’s floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs).

Excelerate Energy’s Floating Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU “Experience”) recently reached an industry record-breaking send-out capacity of 1.06 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas. Nikkiso Cryo’s suction vessel mounted vertical submerged motor centrifugal pumps were used on the FSRU.

The product is designed so the pump and suction vessel become an integral part of the piping system with external suction and discharge connections. The pump is mounted to the top, or head plate, of the vessel such that the pump, motor and fluid product are totally contained within the pressure vessel.

The suction vessel also serves to allow entrained vapors to be separated and go through the
