Elon Musk: Tesla Full Self-Driving beta to expand in two weeks

A little over a month after releasing Tesla Autopilot’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) to a small group of select drivers, Tesla is gearing up for a wider release of the software, according to the company’s CEO, Elon Musk

Tesla has so far only released the FSD update to “expert and careful” drivers, and so a wider release creates the scary prospect of more Tesla owners experimenting with the feature on city streets.

Autopilot has enabled lane changes on clearly marked highways, but FSD allows drivers to automatically handle city streets, traffic lights, roundabouts and street turns.

It also offers assisted parking, the summon feature for parking lots, highway driving assistance, but the feature does not make a Tesla an autonomous car.

Responding to a question on Twitter about a wider FSD beta, Musk said it would probably roll out in about two weeks.

Home Affairs wants to expand telco security reform notification requirements

Under Australia’s Telecommunications Sector Security Reforms (TSSR), all carriers and nominated carriage service providers (C/NCSPs) are required to notify the Communications Access Coordinator (CAC) of proposed changes to their telecommunications systems or services if they become aware of any proposed changes that are likely to have a “material adverse effect” on their capacity to comply with security obligations.

As of 30 June 2020, the Department of Home Affairs has received a total of 66 notifications. It told the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) the notifications received from carriers to date represented the vast majority of the fixed-line and mobile telecommunications market in Australia.

In its submission [PDF] to the PJCIS, Home Affairs suggested additional types of notices “with more nuanced language” to reflect various levels and types of risk and the urgency of adopting further mitigations.

Of course, that isn’t to say that the traditional office is dead, but there will probably be smaller regional offices in the future rather than the old concrete megalith of a corporate skyscraper. And that can’t be a bad thing, can it?

EPOS is a Danish company specializing in telephony headsets and speakerphones for corporates. It’s part of the Demant Group, a world-leading audio and hearing technology company. EPOS has undertaken research on how the pandemic has changed investment
