Two MacBook Pro models getting mini LED in 2021, MacBook Air in 2022 says Kuo

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that as part of Apple’s mini LED push, the company will release a pair of new MacBook Pro models in 2021 with the technology — and a “more affordable” MacBook Air in 2022.

In a note to investors, seen by AppleInsider, Ming-Chi Kuo is refining his predictions for Apple’s use of mini LED technology in the Mac. Specifically, he predicts that the long-rumored 14-inch MacBook Pro with a redesigned chassis will arrive in 2021 alongside another model. Perhaps more notably, Kuo is also expecting a new and “more affordable” MacBook Air in 2022 — but he didn’t comment on the possibility of an enclosure redesign of that model.

Homegrown accelerator and incubator Venture Catalysts on Monday announced that it has led an investment of $1 million in a pre-series A funding round for infusion beverages startup Raskik. 9Unicorns, another accelerator venture capital firm, also participated in the round along with the backing of some key angels and corporate investors such as Syed Safawi, Kunal Bahl and others.

The fresh investment pumped into the startup will be utilized to expand its operations in India and seeks to develop consumer intimacy with millennials.

Research suggests that sharp rise in water temperatures led to death and disappearance of some species from the shallow water of Israeli shores — ScienceDaily

Researchers from Tel Aviv University (TAU) embarked on an underwater journey to solve a mystery: Why did sponges of the Agelas oroides species, which used to be common in the shallow waters along the Mediterranean coast of Israel, disappear? Today, the species can be found in Israel mainly in deep habitats that exist at a depth of 100 meters (330 feet).

The researchers believe that the main reason for the disappearance of the sponges was the rise in seawater temperatures during the summer months, which in the past 60 years have risen by about 3°C (37°F).

The study was led by Professor Micha Ilan and PhD student Tal Idan of TAU’s School of Zoology at the George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences and Steinhardt Museum of Natural History. The article was published in the journal Frontiers in Marine Science in November 2020.

Cascading events led to 2018 Ki?lauea volcanic eruption, providing clues for forecasting — ScienceDaily

The 2018 eruption of Kīlauea Volcano was one of the largest volcanic events in Hawai’i in 200 years. This eruption was triggered by a relatively small and rapid change at the volcano after a decade-long build-up of pressure in the upper parts of the volcano, according to a recent study published in Nature Communications by earth scientists from the University of Hawai’i (UH) at Manoa and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Using USGS Hawaiian Volcanoes Observatory (HVO) data from before and during the 2018 eruptions at the summit and flank, the research team reconstructed the geologic events.

“The data suggest that a backup in the magma plumbing system at the long-lived Puʻu ʻŌʻō eruption site caused widespread pressurization in the volcano, driving magma into the lower flank,” said Matthew Patrick, research geologist at the USGS HVO and lead author of the study.
