A federal court says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers can’t demolish a dam downriver from Augusta if it doesn’t maintain the current water level.

U.S. District Judge Richard Mark Gergel ruled Friday that the Corps of Engineers’ proposed plan to remove the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam doesn’t follow the requirements of a 2016 law that requires the river to be maintained at its current level. The Corps had proposed to remove the dam and build a series of rock weirs across the river, arguing that it’s required to improve fish habitat.

But governments, industries and private property owners who built around the elevated river level provided by the dam opposed the plan. The city of Augusta and the state of South Carolina sued to block the removal after the Corps formally decided to go ahead with the plan in October 2019. That followed a trial

“The DXY Dollar Index, even though it was selling off for quite a while, it actually stabilized a little bit the last four months, and it’s bounced off the $92 level four or five different times,” Maley told CNBC’s “Trading Nation” on Monday. “If you see a breakdown in the dollar below that $92 level, that’s going to help the small outperformance the emerging markets we’ve seen over the last six, eight months become much bigger.”

SpaceX launched NASA’s Sentinel 6-Michael Freilich oceanography satellite from Vandenberg Air Force base in California on Saturday.

A week after it sent four astronauts to the International Space Station for the first time, SpaceX launched the first of two satellites Saturday that will monitor sea level rise over the next decade.

NASA’s Sentinel 6-Michael Freilich oceanography satellite – a joint venture with the European Space Agency – began a five-and-a-half-year mission to collect “the most accurate data yet on global sea level and how our oceans are rising in response to climate change,” according to NASA.

The mission also will collect information on atmospheric temperature and humidity to improve weather forecasts and climate models.

The satellite headed into orbit on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which launched from California’s Vandenberg Air Force base at 12:17 p.m. ET Saturday. The satellite is named in honor of the late director

The Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite is set to launch on Saturday as the next generation of spacecraft keeping an eye on our planet’s sea levels.

The joint venture between NASA and the European Space Agency will launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on November 21 at 12:17 p.m. ET.

A livestream of the launch will be available to watch on NASA’s website. The satellite will launch Saturday on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. If the launch is delayed, there will be more opportunities in the coming days.

A satellite scheduled to launch from California later this month will measure sea level rise and provide other crucial data to scientists who study how global warming is affecting the Earth’s oceans.

His take was that while leadership at every level sounded nice, in reality it was impractical and unwise. His argument surrounded five reasons:

Some people don’t have the skills to lead
Some people don’t want to lead
If everyone thinks they’re a leader too many people are directing things and not enough people are doing things
Having too many leaders creates confusion
Developing leaders is a resource-intensive task and, given reasons 1-4, not a good investment except for high potentials

I understand his logic, but it has a flaw; it defines leadership too narrowly.

Too often we cleave to an antiquated notion of leadership as visionary direction-setting and fearlessly leading the troops into future with a few big strategic decisions.
