Hewlett Packard Enterprise to move headquarters to Texas

SPRING, Texas (AP) — Tech giant Hewlett Packard Enterprise said it is moving its global headquarters to the Houston area from California, where the company’s roots go back to the founding of Silicon Valley decades ago.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s office announced that the relocation will increase the company’s presence in the area, which is already home to more than 2,600 employees. The company also has locations in Austin and Plano.

HPE is building a 440,000-square-foot campus in two five-story buildings in the Houston suburb of Spring. The campus is set for completion in 2022.


“As we look to the future, our business needs, opportunities for cost savings, and team members’ preferences about the future of work, we are excited to relocate HPE’s headquarters to the Houston region,” CEO Antonio Neri said in a written statement Tuesday.

Adam Bauer, a company spokesperson, said that employee relocation is voluntary.

Now, researchers reporting in ACS Applied Polymer Materials have made an environmentally friendly, gelatin-based film that can repair itself multiple times and still maintain the electronic signals needed to access a device’s data. The material could be used someday in smart electronics and health-monitoring devices.


Global consumer demand for hand-held smart devices is rapidly growing, but because of their fragility, the amount of electronic waste is also increasing. Self-repairing films have been developed, but most only work a single time, and some are made with potentially harmful agents that curtail their use in biomedical applications. In an unusual move, Trump administration will protect a pine tree due to climate change

In an unexpected decision, the Trump administration announced that a lethal fungus, a rapacious beetle and even a changing climate jeopardize the survival of an iconic tree of the American West.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is set to propose Wednesday listing the whitebark pine as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. 

Granting federal protections to the tree is a “watershed decision,” said Diana Tomback, professor of integrative biology at the University of Colorado at Denver who has studied the tree for decades.

The whitebark pine’s habitat spans over 80 million acres across seven states and Canada. In its official filing, the agency acknowledged that rising temperatures are pushing the high-elevation tree’s habitat up to higher altitudes, hurting the chances of survival for a pine whose nutritious seeds provide sustenance for everything from red squirrels to black bears.

Canadian Market Flat In Cautious Trade; Technology Stocks Move Up

(RTTNews) – The Canadian stock market, turning in a mixed performance amid cautious moves by investors, is roughly flat around noon on Wednesday.

Profit taking after recent strong gains and a lack of fresh positive triggers contribute to somewhat sluggish movements in the market.

Information technology stocks are notably higher. Several stocks from the materials space are up, rebounding after recent losses. Consumer discretionary, energy and financial shares are seeing some profit taking.

The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index was at 17,276.16, up 1.91 points from previous close, a few minutes before noon. The index earlier touched a low of 17,215.54.

Tech icon criticizes San Francisco, announces move to Florida: ‘Impossible to stay here’

Bay Area tech icon Keith Rabois announced he’s leaving San Francisco permanently — and he is criticizing the city on his way out.

Rabois, an early executive at PayPal, Square, LinkedIn and more, told Fortune he is “moving imminently” because he’s finding it “impossible to stay” in San Francisco. After living in the Bay Area for 20 years, he said he plans on moving to Florida.

“I think San Francisco is just so massively improperly run and managed that it’s impossible to stay here,” Rabois told Fortune.
